Integrated Photonics Systems Roadmap International (IPSR-I)

Integrated Photonics Systems Roadmap International (IPSR-I)

The primary initiative of the Microphotonics Center Industry Consortium, the IPSR-I brings together academic and industry specialists to forecast the projected future of photonic hardware in data communications. Results are achieved by examining, anticipating, and prioritizing potential market demands, technological barriers, and assigning timeframes to key engineering milestones.

About the Roadmap

The IPSR-I provides a forum for Consortium Member companies to assess barriers and solutions for new technology development and deployment. Consortium members represent major nodes across the technology supply chain, from materials and components to systems integrators and end users.

Global Collaboration

Close to 1,000 participants from 300+ organizations across 17 countries contributed to the 2023 release, published with Photon Delta (Netherlands) and U Tokyo (Japan).

8 Technical Working Groups

TWGs meet during teleconferences featuring Technology Briefs and analyses by members and MIT faculty, producing press releases, tech brief documents, and slide sets.

Supply Chain Alignment

The roadmap identifies standard platforms for integrated photonics and aligns materials, tools, components, and systems suppliers with service providers and end users.

IPSR-I 2025 Spring Meeting

The IPSR-I promotes synchronous, self-consistent solutions for the electronic-photonic manufacturing value chain. The urgency to align microchip system performance scaling with a commercially viable manufacturing value chain dominates business and technology decisions today. Hosted by the MIT Microphotonics Center and PhotonDelta. The next IPSR-I will take place in June 2026.
